This gentleman kindly sent us a review of his FUE surgery at The Maitland Clinic. Here is the summary of his hair transplant experience along with before and after photographs of his results…
"I had a hair transplant procedure at the end of January 2023 at the Maitland Clinic and a year on I am delighted with the results! I had around 2,000 grafts to restore the front of my hair which had thinned quite significantly. Having thoroughly researched the hair transplant providers available I felt that Dr Ball and his team would be an excellent choice.
I initially had a meeting with Senior Patient Advisor David Anderson, who gave me a lot of useful information and answered all my questions. I was advised on suitable medication to take to protect my hair as much as possible and met Dr Ball so he could assess my options and gave me advice on his suggestions for the procedure and what to expect from it. With an excellent portfolio of patients, I immediately felt I was in safe hands!
I had a pre-procedure meeting with Dr Ball the evening before the hair transplant where he mapped out where the grafts would go to enhance my existing hairline. Then what was – for me – a big deal, having my head shaved (the first time in my life) in preparation for the procedure! I am pleased to say it was nowhere near as traumatic as I had perhaps envisaged!
On the day of the procedure I was (understandably) a little nervous but the whole team were lovely, really putting my mind at rest. I had been well briefed on how it would all work – a morning extracting the hair grafts and an afternoon of them being implanted. I had a mixture of different medications to dull any discomfort or pain and was mostly able to sit and watch streaming TV whilst the team got on with their brilliant work. There was a break for lunch and frequent breaks to visit the toilet or get refreshments.
At the end of the day my head was carefully covered to protect the grafts and when I got home there was about a week to ten days of being extra careful to protect my head (including sleeping in a more upright position) and using various medications to stay comfortable and allow the donor areas to recover too. I was able to get back to normal life as soon as that initial period was done.
The aftercare from the team at The Maitland Clinic has also been excellent. I have stayed in touch and felt I could ask for advice and help whenever needed, which is also a big bonus of using such a great team. I had some dry scalp problems many months after the procedure and got great advice on what to use to calm any problems down.
I am absolutely delighted with the results! My hair grew back surprisingly quickly, even within about 3 or 4 weeks I had a light covering and could see the new hair starting to take shape. Also, I am delighted to say that the donor areas healed and covered very well with hair and even my hairdresser is hard pushed to find the tiny scars. I now have a better head hair than I have had in years, which has given me a lot of confidence back that I felt I had lost for a while.
I would genuinely happily recommend Dr Ball and his wonderful team at The Maitland Clinic. I have felt fully supported throughout the whole process – which is definitely a journey rather than just the procedure itself. Hair loss can be quite distressing but having friendly expert advice and support has made the whole experience very much easier."
