Start Your Hair Transplant Diary: Template and Tips

A hair transplant diary is the most useful thing you can post here. Clinics publish their best results; a diary shows the whole journey, month by month, including the slow and worrying parts. Copy the template below into a new topic in this category, fill in what you know, and add a reply each time you have an update.

Key points

  • You can stay anonymous. Use a username that doesn’t identify you, and crop or blur your face if you prefer.
  • Photos matter more than words. Take the same angles in the same light every time.
  • Post the bad months too. Shedding and the “ugly duckling” phase are exactly what future patients need to see.
  • Be open about money. If the clinic gave you a discount or paid you, say so at the top of your diary.

The template

When you start a new topic in Hair Transplant Experiences, this template is filled in for you. You can also copy it from here:

Which photos to take

  1. Front, with your hair pushed back so the hairline shows.
  2. Left and right temples, from the side.
  3. Top, looking down from above.
  4. Crown, from behind and above.
  5. Donor area, the back and sides.

Use dry hair, the same room and the same light each time. A phone on a shelf with the timer is enough. Daylight from a window works better than an overhead lamp.

When to post updates

When What people want to see
Day 1 The recipient and donor areas right after surgery
Day 10–14 After the scabs have come off
Month 1–2 Shedding, if it happens
Month 3–4 First new growth
Month 6 How the density is coming along
Month 9 Thickening and texture
Month 12 The main result
Month 18 The final result, especially for the crown

If you are not sure what is normal at a given stage, our growth timeline and aftercare guide explain each phase.

Forum rules for diaries

  • One diary per surgery. Add updates as replies, not new topics.
  • No posting on behalf of a clinic. Clinic staff and agents must say who they work for.
  • Disagreeing with a result is fine; personal attacks on other members or on named staff are not.
  • Medical questions are welcome, but the forum is not a substitute for your own surgeon.
